Stan Riddle, Machinist, Millwright, and Technical Trainer for VibrAlign, recently wrote a very interesting blog titled “Critical Machines? It Depends on Who You Ask“, wherein he discusses one of his latest alignment training sessions at a gas compression site.
While Stan notes that the large gas compressors were in excellent shape, with perfect alignment between the engine and compressor, the alignment on the lube oil pump underneath was not so great.
He goes on to talk about the difference in perspective that some people consider a facility’s critical machines to be those that are important for production, but often forget the machines that service those machines are also critical.
